NOSE PLASTIC SURGERY

Every year more than half a million people consult a plastic surgeon to enhance the appearance of their nose, an operation referred to as Rhinoplasty, or nose plastic surgery. Nose is the most prominent characteristic of any person’s face, even a slight change can enhance overall appearance of the person. Rhinoplasty is a nose plastic surgery procedure performed to reshape, reduce and enhance a person’s nose. We are experienced in removing a narrow nostril width, a bump, and can also correct injuries, birth defects, or any other problems which affect the appearance of the nose. Rhinoplasty procedure involves reshaping the cartilages and nasal bones to produce a balanced and harmonious nose which blends and enhances a person’s facial features.

NOSE PLASTIC SURGERY OR RHINOPLASTY PROCEDURE STEPS

Rhinoplasty is not a procedure with a set series of steps. Every nose plastic surgery is unique and is customized for particular anatomy and goals of the patient undergoing the rhinoplasty procedure. Rhinoplasty may be done inside your nose or via a small external cut at the base of the nose or it can be performed in between the nostrils. The surgeon will readjust the nasal one and cartilage that covers your skin. The surgeon may expand your nasal bone or cartilage in various ways, based on how much needs to be added and the structure of your nose. Nose plastic surgery requires local anaesthesia with sedation(only the nose is numbed) or general anaesthesia(patient sleeps throughout the operation) based on the complexity of the surgery and the surgeon will decide which kind of anaesthesia is best in your case.

In general, the rhinoplasty procedure steps can be summarized as follows –

  • Anaesthesia
  • Incision
  • Reshaping the Nose Structure
  • Correcting a Deviated Septum
  • Closing the Incision

RHINOPLASTY RECOVERY TIME

On completion of the nose plastic surgery, you’ll be in a recovery room, where the nurse monitors your return to wakefulness from anaesthesia. You might leave later the same day or, if you have any other health issues, the surgeon might advise you to stay overnight.

Patients are required to wear a nasal splint at least for one week and can sense some swelling around the eyes which will improve in 2 or 3 days post rhinoplasty. However, to the max such irritations can last for 2 weeks. Patients will also have swelling on the nose which will slowly and gradually go away. The final enhanced shape of the nose will become noticeable, once the nose has healed completely. Patients who have undergone a nose plastic surgery should avoid any arduous activities for 3 to 6 weeks.

Just like any other surgery, a nose plastic surgery also has some risks which are rare and often minor.
